Revise and revisit

Walter has decided to talk to Sean privately one more time.
Notice how Walter has supported Sean:

  • Walter learned about mental health and referral process
  • Walter talked to Sean about mental health and revised and revisited the conversation
  • Sean also took steps to address his problems

Talking openly about mental health reduces stigma and encourages help-seeking.

Having a Conversation mini-dramas demonstrate strategies that can be used to make mental health referrals.

Next: Having a Conversation

Walter: Hey, we talked a while back about your concussion, girlfriend, and stuff. I was just wondering, I mean, we got talking about the alumni game. Are you doing okay?
Sean: Yeah, you know, after we talked about it, I realized things were kind of going pretty bad for me, so I decided to talk to someone about it. I actually went to the counseling center like you said.
Walter: I didn't know, man.
Sean: Yeah, well it made a big difference and I was real mad at you at first, for getting into my business, but I appreciate now that you did it.
Walter: I apologize.
Sean: No, it’s all good because it showed you cared, man. You are a true friend. I appreciate it.
