Recognize the problem

It is not Gabriella’s job to diagnose the problem but she can Extend her knowledge and learn about mental health issues.

Some symptoms of an eating disorder include:
  • A relentless pursuit of thinness and unwillingness to maintain a normal or healthy weight
  • Intense fear of gaining weight
  • Distorted body image, a self-esteem that is heavily influenced by perceptions of body weight and shape, or a denial of the seriousness of low body weight
  • Extremely restricted eating
  • Compulsive exercise

NEXT: Facilitate a conversation

Gabriella: What you do think he is going to have us do at practice today?
Elizabeth: I don't know. I hope it’s not those 400s though.
Gabriella: Are you going to come to dinner with the team?
Elizabeth: Probably not. I really can't get any bigger, plus, I'm already stressed about having to finish my run before my night class.
Gabriella: All right, well, do you want to hang out after class maybe?
Elizabeth: I really don't have time for that either.
Gabriella: Wow. You sound really stressed. Text me if anything changes
Elizabeth: Okay. I will.
